| Features: | Tan head and body; large red-brown darkish saddles across the back. Conical overhanging snout. Tiny pectoral fins, no larger than diameter of eye. Occasional Gulf of California and central Pacific Coast of Baja to Panama. Solitary. Burrow into gravel and rocky rubble mixed with sand and move beneath the surface, occasionally rest with heads exposed. They are wary and will generally bury beneath the surface when approached. Occasionally allow a close approach. |
